At Tawingo College we care about the arts and believe that education in the arts teaches students to be creative, confident and think in new ways.
One of our goals at Tawingo College is to educate children for life and our arts classes are a fundamental part of that. All students, from Kindergarten to Grade 8 have classes in visual art, drama and music and are given many opportunities to create and perform.
The Drama Program at Tawingo College is one of the most popular activities at the school. Every single student is involved and it builds their self-confidence. The unique talents of each student are recognized and over the years every child becomes as comfortable as they can possibly be standing on a stage and addressing an audience. This is a life skill that benefits the students long after the curtains have gone down on their school play days.
Our teachers and principal, Mrs. Pearse, have a rare ability to offer the students direction while still ensuring that they find their own creative voice. As a result, the end of the year plays, in which all the students are involved (even those in kindergarten), are a joy for every parent to watch. Each performer gets a chance to perform in a role that is just right for them. Tawingo College is a nurturing, positive environment for both the rehearsals and the performances which results in an experience that the students are tremendously excited to be a part of.
Guitar, piano, vocals or drums; music rings through the halls of Tawingo College. The school year affords each of the students a variety of opportunities to perform in front of an audience. Assemblies take place every few months and are well attended by parents, extended family members and friends. Students sing, dance, perform and recite with their class or on their own. Because the school is so small, each child has an opportunity to shine.
